Simple Beginnings
Delaney Shearing got its starts after I decided to join a weeklong shearing class back in January 2020. From that point I was hooked and knew I wanted to shear and have my own sheep farm. Shortly after, I moved back to Vermont and started shearing for local farmers. Over the course of several years, I saw a lot of the wool being thrown out in to the woods or in the manure pile. As a budding fiber artist, I started to experiment. This decision has led to a shed full of wool and a range of rug types that I now make. I have felted, woven, and crotched these wool rugs to showcase the natural beauty of our sheep. There is nothing quite like seeing your cat engulfed in the fluff as they enjoy a sunbeam making its way through a wintery window. Or wiggling your toes in deep as you wake up with a cup of coffee. I am all about finding the joy in the small moments and routines and I think nothing adds comfort better to a home than a wool rug.
Nowadays I shear for fewer farms as I focus on growing my own farm and creating rugs from the wool I produce on my own farm as well as what I buy from others. On our farm we have a registered flock of Babydoll Southdowns, a mixed flock of large longwool sheep, and a milking herd of Nubian goats.
